ParticipACTION
Day... Gearing up for 2009!
ParticipACTION
Day has become an integral part of the Bendigo Community
events calendar. Since 2002, the event has attracted over 40,000
people to the banks of Lake Weeroona to participate in a wide
range of interactive demonstrations from local sport and active
recreation clubs, with the view to them becoming more active and
leading a healthier lifestyle.
Our
aims for the event are to:
- Provide
sustainable physical activity opportunities for currently inactive
people.
-
Provide
opportunities for sport and active recreation clubs to increase
membership.
-
Support
the development of inclusive opportunities and environments
for new participants.
-
Enhancing
skills and knowledge of sport and active recreation volunteers.
However,
to this point we haven't been able to accurately measure all of
these outcomes and therefore need to re-evaluate the format of
ParticipACTION Day in order to gain the information we need.
In
order to facilitate these changes and ensure the sustainable future
of ParticipACTION Day we have decided to forgo the event for 2008
and concentrate our efforts on making 2009 the launch of the new
ParticipACTION Day.
Over
the coming months we will keep you informed, via this website,
on the dev elopements relating to this exciting new format, so
you can share with us the amazing experience that will be ParticipACTION
Day 2009.
If
you require any further information relating to this event, please
don't hesitate to contact any of our helpful staff at Sports Focus. |

Do
you work or volunteer with Children?
You
may now need a Working with Children Check.
The
Working with Children Check is a checking system that will affect
many adults who work or volunteer in child-related industries.
The check is different from a police check and is continually
monitored for new relevant offences and findings. It's another
we're protecting Victoria's children.
The
government has now endorsed the the phasing in plan for Sport
and Recreation. These changes means that people working or volunteering
in connection with the recreational or sporting groups set out
below will be required to apply for WWC Checks by 30 June 2009.
- Athletics, basketball, cricket, football, soccer, gymnastics,
martial arts, netball, swimming, tennis.
People
working or volunteering in connection with remaining recreational
sporting groups will be required to apply by 30 June 2010.

Understanding
Lease & Hire Agreements - A Guide for Sport & Active Recreation
Clubs Resource
VicSport,
with funding support from the Victorian Property Fund on the approval
of the Minister for Consumer Affairs, has completed an easy to
follow guide to help community groups better understand their
facility access agreements.
Recently
a number of issues in regard to indemnity clauses contained in
agreements and unfair levels of responsibility being placed on
users has alerted us to the fact that many groups do not fully
understand what it is they are agreeing to when they sign lease
and hire agreements.
This
guide contains information on a range of topics relevant to understanding
facility access agreements.
The
guide can be downloaded from the VicSport website at www.vicsport.asn.au |
