New Child Safe Standards are coming
The Victorian Government has announced that a set of new Child Safe Standards (The Standards) will commence on 1 July 2022. The eleven new standards will replace Victoria’s current seven standards and principles. These changes are being made to support greater national consistency, reflecting the National Principles for a Child Safe Organisation. This is to ensure that the Standards within Victoria are even stronger and enable greater protection for children and young people.
There are currently seven Standards which apply to all organisations who provide a service to children. These will be in place until 1 July 2022. This includes sporting organisations, leagues, clubs and associations. The Standards detail how your organisation will protect children from abuse through policies and procedures, and develop a culture of child safety, including the safety of children with a disability, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and children from CALD backgrounds.
