COVID-19: Supporting your Sponsors
The COVID-19 outbreak is affecting us all, with many of the local businesses and organisations that provide support to sporting clubs facing uncertain times ahead. When you think about your own sponsors, they have no doubt provided your Club much needed support over the years, and without their generosity you would not have been able to operate or enjoy the many successes which you have had as a club. Now more than ever is a great opportunity for your Club to reciprocate the generosity they have shown to you. Even if some of your sponsors aren’t necessarily struggling, it is important to maintain connection and show that the club will support them through this trying time.
Over the past weeks, we have seen through social media many clubs across the Loddon Campaspe region highlighting their support towards their sponsors. Some great ideas and examples include:
- Advertising your sponsors business/product through your communication channels i.e. Facebook, website, newsletter and encouraging your members to continue to support them. E.g. Pubs/cafes providing take away meals.
- Sponsor Profiling – asking your sponsors several questions highlighting who they are and what they do, how they are connected to you club and then spreading this amongst your communication platforms.
- If your Club is conducting player incentives such as player profiles within your club through social media, why not allocate a sponsor per player profile. A great way to promote the player as well as a sponsor all in one.
- It might be as simple as stepping up and contacting your sponsors and asking, “how can we help you now?”
By showing your support and commitment, you will be demonstrating loyalty and appreciation towards your sponsors and as a result, the wider community. For now, your club doors may be “closed” but demonstrating your loyalty and support during this difficult time may just be the difference between keeping or losing a sponsor when we come out the other side of all of this.
