Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Sports Focus has, and always will have, the health and wellbeing of its staff, contractors, community members and volunteers at the forefront of its decision making at times of high risk.

Sports Focus recommends that the sport sector in the Loddon Campaspe region keep up to date with developments by following the bulletins released by the Victorian State Government at: or via the appropriate State Sporting Association.

Attached to the above link is a statement released by the Victorian Chief Health Officer on 15 March 2020. Sadly, the progression of this virus is such, that some of the information contained in the statement will now be outdated.

Sports Focus will continue to monitor developments and will provide these updates to the community sporting sector, through our website and Facebook page.

Of course, with any widespread illness, organisations need to plan for people being away, their return to duty and hygiene measures for staff and volunteers.

These are the conversations that everyone should be having now. You should particularly talk to elderly friends and family and support them to plan to stay safe.

For now, it is advised:

  • If you are ill, stay at home. If you think you need medical attention, phone your GP or the hotline first and they’ll tell you what to do.
  • Practise good hand hygiene – wash your hands regularly. It really does make a difference. And employ good cough etiquette by coughing into a handkerchief or your elbow.
  • Other measures should include not touching your face, and instead of your fingers, using your knuckle, a pen or an ID card to activate electronic buttons.
  • Avoid handshaking, preferring to nod acknowledgement.

It’s been previously stated in the media that wearing masks is not the best preventive measure. They play a role if you’re unwell and you need to be out and about, but if you’re well they’re not a great use of a resource in high demand.

And please continue to exercise, eating healthy food, drinking water and getting adequate sleep.

There is no doubt that COVID-19 in Australia will present challenges across every sector and in every community. But if we listen and act on health advice, we can help protect our most vulnerable – older Victorians and those with chronic conditions such as heart and lung disease.

Our best public health advice tells us COVID-19 will be with us for a while.

But by preparing and protecting ourselves and others – we can and we will get through this together.

The COVID-19 hotline is available 24 hours, 7 days on 1800 675 398.

Sports Focus COVID-19 Response

Sports Focus has considered the advice currently provided by government and health officials in relation to COVID-19. Sports Focus remains committed to safeguarding; staff, contractors, participants and volunteers when making decisions that could impact their health and wellbeing. We are wanting to act both responsibly and proactively in the best interest of the community, particularly those who are most vulnerable.

Therefore we are postponing all upcoming events/activities being facilitated by Sports Focus; such as our Managing Member Behaviour workshops, Liquor Licensing & RSA courses and all participation programming.

We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding during this unprecedented time.

Sporting clubs and active recreation organisations also have an important role to play in reducing the risk of infection and slowing the spread of the virus in Victorian communities. Sports Focus is encouraging all sporting clubs/leagues/associations to consider postponing or suspending all non-essential gatherings and/or activities. The health and wellbeing of club members, officials, coaches and spectators remains our number one priority.

We appreciate that this is an uncertain time for all but at some point, our sport and our clubs will resume and we need to be ready to respond when they do. We encourage you to take this time to focus on building the off-field aspects of your Club and do not underestimate the importance of maintaining regular communication with your members and the community.

As always, Sports Focus staff will be available to offer support and advice to sport and recreation clubs. Our operating hours are 8:30am-5:00pm Monday – Friday, please call 5442 3101 or email and we will endeavour to assist you to the best of our ability.
